Peer Services
History/ Introduction
- In 2012, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and three mental health agencies, Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, Caritas – Hong Kong and the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, have ventured to pioneer the three-year MINDSET Peer Support Worker Project funded by MINDSET, a registered charity.
- In 2015, supported by Social Welfare Department with Lotteries Fund, the two-year "Pilot Project on Peer Support Service in Community Psychiatric Service Units” was implemented in eleven non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
- In 2018, Social Welfare Department regularized "Agency-based Peer Support Service in Community Psychiatric Service Units” in eleven NGOs.
Our Aims
- Provide peer support for people-in-recovery through trained Peer Support Workers; and
- Increase public acceptance of people-in-recovery.
Our Services
- Provide emotional and recovery support to service users;
- Perform simple counselling for service users during interviews and/or concern calls;
- Assist in performing outreaching/ networking duties and conducting concern visits to service users;
- Assist in planning and conducting recovery-orientated groups/ programmes for service users; and
- Assist in organizing and running public education programs for the public.
Service Target
- People-in-recovery receiving services at Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness (ICCMWs) and other community psychiatric service units of our Association;
- Persons with suspected mental health problems receiving services at ICCMWs of our Association;
- the family members and carers of the above; and
- the general public whom are the participants of public education efforts of our Association.
Application and Exit of Service
- Applicants may receive this service after the service admission to ICCMWs and other community psychiatric service units of our Association.
- Service users, who want to withdraw from the service, may approach the corresponding service unit.

The service is free of charge.
