Social Enterprise Café 388 Officially Launches

New Life‘s social enterprise Café 388, located in the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited office building, commenced operations on 6 January, 2025. As the first café under the "Business-NGO Collaboration” model, Café 388 offers HKEX employees high-quality coffee, healthy snacks and a mindful space for connection and rejuvenation.

The café’s design emphasises sustainability: brick walls and tabletops are upcycled from used coffee grounds collected from Café 330 branches, while product shelves are made from repurposed "O’beans” soy milk bottles. This aligns with New Life’s commitment to promoting environmental stewardship.

Café 388 also provides vocational training and employment opportunities as baristas for persons in recovery, reflecting New Life’s mission to foster social inclusion and support underprivileged communities.

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, Café 388 hosted a Chinese calligraphy event featuring calligrapher Mr. WONG Ying-sheung, President of the Ling Fung Art Club, alongside New Life’s staff and persons in recovery. He offered on-the-spot calligraphy writing of Spring Festival couplets to customers.

The project also provides job matching and internship opportunities. The project’s achievements were recently showcased at the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit hosted by the South China Morning Post.

At the summit, New Life representatives engaged corporate participants to promote inclusive workplace practices and advocate for employment opportunities for SEN youth.
