"Heart-to-Heart Social Welfare Gathering: Celebrating the 74th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China” Event

On 5 Oct, Prof. Annie TAM Kam-lan, GBS, JP, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of New Life, and Mr. Thomas CHU Sai-ming, Chief Executive Officer of New Life attended an event celebrating the 74th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, organised by Hong Kong Social Welfare Sector Heart to Heart Joint Action.


As the Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Hong Kong Social Welfare Sector Heart to Heart Joint Action, Prof. Annie TAM was one of the officiating guests at the event, alongside Mr. HE Jing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Chris Sun, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, and Reverend Canon Peter Douglas Koon, BBS, JP, Chairman of Heart to Heart Joint Action.


The event marked a significant milestone as it was an inaugural large-scale National Day celebration held by the social welfare sector in recent years. The event aimed to foster unity and collaboration among stakeholders in the sector to advance effective governance and enhance social well-being in Hong Kong. The celebration concluded with a resounding success, as it gathered over 650 representatives spanning more than 320 social service welfare organisations. At an exchange forum held during the event, Prof. Annie TAM had an insightful discussion with some other industry experts and government representatives on strategies to enhance governance and improve citizens’ quality of life.



Participating In "2023 Logistics Summit”

Prof. Annie TAM Kam-lan, GBS, JP, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of New Life joined the "2023 LSCM Logistics Summit” on 11 Oct, where she took part in discussions with government officials, industry experts, and business leaders on leveraging advanced technology for Greater Bay Area development and enhancing industry efficiency and competitiveness.



SWD’s "Enhancing Employment of People with Disabilities through Small Enterprise” Project Sharing Session

On 5 Oct, Ms. Kris WONG, General Manager (Social Enterprises) of New Life was invited to a sharing session hosted by the Marketing Consultancy Office (Rehabilitation) of SWD under the "Enhancing Employment of People with Disabilities through Small Enterprise” Project. She shared insights on operating New Life’s social enterprises, establishing 330 brands, and keeping up with the latest social needs and supporting employment development for people with disabilities.

The sharing session consisted of panel discussions and keynote presentations, sharing the assessment criteria and procedures to be reviewed by the Assessment Panel. Tips on enhancing the viability of the business plan and planning marketing strategies were also discussed during the session.



World Mental Health Day Symposium Cum Mental Health Exhibition 2023

This year’s "World Mental Health Day” on 10 Oct was themed "Mental health is a universal human right” by the World Health Organisation, advocating everyone’s right to uphold their mental health well-being.

In response to "World Mental Health Day”, New Life collaborated with nine local social welfare and recovery organisations to hold a series of community education activities. This included the "World Mental Health Day Symposium cum Mental Health Exhibition 2023” held by Mental Health Foundation at Cordis Hotel on 10 Oct. The event provided a platform for knowledge exchange in mental health and latest challenges faced by mental health services.


Mr. Raymond LAM, Social Work Supervisor of New Life, shared his experiences of helping people with severe mental recovery integrate into the community at the symposium.


Outside the venue, New Life set up a booth to introduce the Jockey Club New Life Institute of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Wellness Recovery Action Plan® to the participants, attracting many participants from the medical and social welfare sectors, as well as those who are interested in learning about mental health services.


New Life remains committed to promoting mental health education to the public and striving to enhance the holistic well-being of Hong Kong people, by upholding our service commitment to "Care and Innovation”.



Joining "Walk Up Jardine House 2023” To Promote Mental Health

On 22 Oct, representatives from New Life’s Joyous Place participated in the "Walk Up Jardine House 2023” competition, organised by Jardine Matheson Group and its charity arm "Mindset”. Four service users and one staff member took part in the relay race for social welfare organisations after a three-year hiatus. They walked or ran up 49 floors of Jardine House, mounting 947 steps to reach the peak of the building, to support this charity event for mental health.

Our representatives supported each other through the tough race and won second place. Through the competition, it is hoped that everyone will be aware of their own needs and adjust their conditions amid challenges, and enhance their holistic well-being.



dayday330 X Chinachem Group Charity Sale

New Life’s dayday330 collaborated with Chinachem Group to launch the "Big Heart. Big Rewards" Charity Sale, with booths across various locations in Hong Kong in October. Products available included New Life’s brand products, fresh organic food and handicrafts made from recovery members’ creations.

Chinachem Group will make one-to-one matching donations from all proceeds of the charity sale to support the promotion of mental health education and encourage more people to pay attention to their holistic well-being.




Vibrant Voluntary Activities In Support Of People In Recovery

New Life Farm
New Life Farm held volunteer activities for Hong Kong Club and Hilti (Hong Kong) Limited in October. The participants visited the farm to learn about the functions and operations of the agricultural sheltered workshop, and experienced farming and gardening work. The visit aimed to encourage volunteers to reduce food waste, and contribute to protecting the earth.


Kwai Shing Sheltered Workshop: ECF Food Sharing Project
Thanks to enthusiastic volunteers from various organisations, the ECF Food Sharing Project at Kwai Shing Sheltered Workshop was able to hold community activities for its beneficiaries.


GREEN@KWAI TSING Community Event
On 13 and 14 Oct, GREEN@KWAI TSING held two community engagement activities with Tianjin Port Development Holdings Ltd. and Ying Wa Primary School’s scout group respectively. The activities aimed to promote community recycling to the public and encourage them to take part in environmental protection work.
