Ms. Loretta Poon, Senior Manager of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (New Life) said that, in the past two years, New Life had presented the touchable version mind jar for every one to spend a tranquil and mindful Christmas. To address the needs of busy working class, New Life has tailor-made a special e-version of mind jar to allow users to practice mindful anytime and anywhere whenever needed.

To facilitate the practice of mindfulness by parents and their children, there are two different editions of e-mind jar for adult and kids. For kids edition, the voice guidance is of an easier and simple wordings, while for adult edition it is more directed to different symptoms such as insomnia, pain and difficulty in diet adjustment, etc.. Both editions give clear instruction and explanation about the features and how it connects with our emotions and thoughts of mind jar. It also reminds users to be aware of their body and mind status and encourages them to persist in practice.

The Differences Between E-version and Touchable Version

Different from the touchable version, e-mind jar allows users to choose a specific color of glistering powder to represent his/her instant emotional state. Such act reminds users to notice their state of mind before practice.

Sharing of Users

We have invited Kai Yin and his mother to share their experience after mindfulness practice with e-mind jar.

  1. How did you get to know mind jar? Why did you start mindfulness practice? And how does it help you?

Kai Yin’s Mother: I registered for the mindfulness courses in New Life as I found difficulty in getting along with my son. And that was when I first got to know the concept of mindfulness and mind jar.

Kai Yin: My mother hoped that I could learn to handle my emotions by mindfulness practice. She registered the mindfulness course for children in New Life for me. That was when I started to learn about mindfulness and mind jar.

  2. What changes did you see in yourself after taking the course?

Kai Yin’s Mother: I developed new perspective to many things in life after mindfulness course. Whenever I got into a fight with my son, I would calm myself down before making any move. And Kai Yin is able to be aware of his negative emotion whenever he is about to lose temper, and gently soothes himself and gets rid of his anger. He also manages to notice negative emotion in persons around him now. One day I left his water bottle at home and realized on our way to his school. When noticed my guilt, he surprisingly held my hand and said, ‘Don’t worry Mom, I do not need water after PE class, so don’t be sad, let it go.’ I never felt so comforting in my life because I never expected my son would have noticed my unhappiness and actively come to console me!’

No matter how busy my day would be, I persist in practising mindfulness. My mind would naturally become peaceful and tranquil after that. -- Kai Yin’s Mother
