Result Announcement of "Cognitive behavioral approach to hoarding problems in people in recovery of mental illness: A pilot study in Hong Kong”

Hoarding refers to the acquisition of, and failure to discard, possessions which appear to be useless or of limited values (Frost & Gross, 1993). Hoarding Disorder is diagnosed as a discrete disorder which is characterised under the category of Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders.

In order to tackle the problem of hoarding among persons in recovery, New Life launched a pilot scheme called "Rational Possession (囤得有理)” in 2014, that applies cognitive behavioral approach to hoarding problems and conducts thorough research on its effectiveness.

The results indicate that the participants find it becoming less difficult to dispose of their items, and the problem of hoarding has generally improved.
