This Lunar New Year, New Life collaborated with Hong Kong Tramways to present the Lunar New Year "Lucky Tram”. The "Lucky Tram" adapted the artworks from New Life's service users with their interpretation of Hong Kong Tramways’ mascot, "Ding Ding Cat”, and their artistic expression of symbolic festive items. The Tram No.30 has been travelling along Hong Kong Island, sending blessings to everyone for the Year of the Rabbit.

With its recovery-oriented philosophy across its services, New Life launched "gift330” in 2020, introducing the artworks from people in recovery (PIR) to the community. Creations with themes of ”eat”, "travel” and "living” further promote these service users' gift and talent in arts to the public, hence fostering a greater social inclusion. A cutlery series is one of the examples of the "gift330” projects under the theme of "eat”.
New Life is grateful to Hong Kong Tramways for its unwavering support with various community events for the PIR, including tram tours and visits to community attractions such as the Central Market. Leveraging the five senses (see, hear, taste, smell and touch), participants can take a glimpse of the local history and culture, and strengthen their connection with the community, as they explore their neighbourhood from new angles.
In this "travel”-themed collaboration project, the PIR translated their perceptions to inspirations for curating Hong Kong Tramways’ mascot, "Ding Ding Cat”, as a character that brings happiness and fortune to the passengers.
"In 2021, the gift 330 project themed "travel” encourages our creators to walk into the community, to feel the vibe and culture at the centre of the city, and enjoy the relief and calmness at the countryside. This festive ‘Lucky Tram' offers us the perfect spot to appreciate the creation from our members. I hope you can get on this tram during the Lunar New Year, every passenger and their families will experience the effort and ability of the PIR.”
Mr. Thomas CHU Sai-ming, Chief Executive Officer of New Life
"Since last year, Hong Kong Tramways has been partnering with New Life for several ‘330 X Tram” campaigns to raise public awareness of the body, mind and spirit well-being. Through this fascinating art piece, we hope to reinforce the message while sharing the New Year's happiness to everyone.”
Mr. Nixon Cheung, Head of Commercial and Brand of HK Tramways
"I appreciate the Tramways’ staff as they always perform their role diligently, safeguarding the operation of the trams and the rails. I feel delighted and hopeful whenever I see a tram coming closer to me, and this feeling has empowered my drawing.”
Ms. Leung Miu-ling, a patient in recovery
"From a visit at Hong Kong Tramways and a tram tour, to the patients' creation process, their joy and devotion have certainly amplified this project. We hope the passengers would echo this feeling too.”
Mr. Alan Cheung, Co-founder & Managing Director of One Bite Design Studio
"Travelling in the city takes the right transportation, and a tram is exactly a great way for us to ‘walk the life’. We had a tram ride before kicking off the creation to get to know more about the landscape, flashlights and the breath of the streets. We were pleased to have this opportunity and hope to curate more inclusive urban experiences for the people in this city.”
Ms. Sarah Mui, Vice-Chair of Hong Kong Architecture Centre
