Paving the Way for Community Integration
The Association has been providing various sustainable and community-based work training opportunities for people in recovery of mental illness since 1995 through successful bidding for government’s cleaning tenders. These contracts provided services for: Wong Chuk Wan & Tso Wo Hang BBQ Area, Tai Lung Experimental Ground, Tai Tong BBQ Area, Castle Peak Poultry Breeding Centre, Hung Hom Complex, Fa Yuen Street Complex, Pei Ho Street Complex and Sai Kung ORC. These community-based training programmes, aiming at paving the way for workers to move out of sheltered workshops, are believed to be more effective in the recovery process of service users than the traditional "sheltered” model. Through a real work setting, they are allowed to develop their full potential and social skills, gradually and finally leading to their community integration.
Capitalizing on our rich experience in providing cleaning services, we successfully obtained the large-scale cleaning contract, the Kwai Tsing Cleansing Contract in 1999 to provide cleaning services for 14 recreation sites under Regional Council (Former Leisure & Cultural Services Department) in Kwai Tsing Discrict. Since then, the contract has been renewed several times with the number of sites increased to 93 and the scope of service extended to site management and maintenance.
