Service Introduction

  • Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association launched the "Jockey Club CALM Project: Cultivating Awareness for Loving Minds" (Mental Health Support Programme for Caregivers of Students with Special Educational Needs) from September 2025 to August 2028.
  • This project applies Three-tier Support Model to identify and support caregivers of students with Special Educational Needs with mindfulness-based and family-based approaches

Our Objective

  • Transform "carers" into "self-carers" by encouraging them to notice and respond to their physical and emotional needs through self-compassion.
  • Promote an open and multifaceted approach for families to reflect on and improve family interactions, parent-child relationships, and parenting styles.
  • Identify the parenting needs of carers with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and provide appropriate support and referrals.

Our Service

Public Education, Parent Support, and Agency Training
  • Through booths, talks, and activities, the team promotes mental health care and self-compassion to the general public, students, and parents. In addition, we provide related training and sharing sessions for schools and NGOs.
Tier 1 – Universal Support
  • Through talks and workshops, share and promote knowledge and skills related to parent-child communication and discipline to carers with different needs.
Tier 2 – Selective Support
  • Provide further support to caregivers and families with further levels of need through activities, groups, or workshops. Mindfulness-based or family-based programs will be offered to suit the circumstances of different schools.
Tier 3 – Targeted Support
  • Provide one-on-one individual counseling by helping professionals to help caregivers process and relieve physical and emotional stress related to parenting.
