Our Aims
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has funded New Life and the Department of Psychology of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to launch the JC Tourheart eGPS project since 2017. New Life will continue the JC eGPS Psychological Support Project starting from 1 September 2020. This project enhances existing stepped care model. In addition to providing evidence-based psychological intervention for individuals who are suffering from mild to moderate emotional distress, we also provide programs and intervention for those who are interested in enhancing their well-being or those who need a psychological intervention a higher intensity.
Our Beliefs
Stress, anxiety, and depression are common mood problems to modern urbanites causing personal distress and other life problems. We aim to provide psychological intervention for people with mild to moderate emotional distress. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a well-established evidence-based psychological intervention over the decades. You will learn how to use the CBT effectively and flexibly with the guidance of your Psychological Well-being Officer to improve your emotion, reduce psychological burden and enhance the quality of life.
Our Services
- Wellness Recovery Action Plan
- One-to-one guided self-help (6-8 sessions)
- Psychoeducation groups
- Clinical psychological treatment groups
Service Characteristics
Our services make reference to The Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), in which Psychological Wellbeing Officers (PWO) offer a series of evidence-based psychological interventions of low-intensity with reference to "The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines”. It is well-documented that these therapies were effective in treating people with mild-to-moderate depression and anxiety.
All the PWOs of our team hold bachelor degree in psychology. They all receive training and work under supervision of the Department of Psychology, CUHK as well as the Clinical Psychologists from NLPRA to ensure the quality and fidelity of our services.
Varying from traditional therapies, our services highly emphasize on your participation and active learning throughout the process. Our PWOs will work with you collaboratively to identify your own needs through assessment and choosing a suitable therapeutic mode. Your PWO will also provide one-to-one intensive intervention sessions during which you have to learn a series of self-help tools and complete assigned homework given in each session. We hope that you can gradually acquire the essential skills of managing your emotional distress.
