MILESTONES

Established in 1965, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association has grown to a leading non-governmental organization specializing in mental health, making positive changes to the service development in Hong Kong with the support from different stakeholders.

By looking back these 55 years, we can see the scale expansion and service diversification of the Association. From only providing the rehabilitation services to people in recovery with mental illness at the very beginning to the development of diversified service categories and the wellbeing promotion to the general public, it is indeed reflecting the Association’s Core Values – “Excel for Quality”. In the flashback, we will continue to uphold the traditions and inject with innovative ideas at the same time in order to move forward to the next milestone with pride.

New Life Foundation

1959
Formed the New Life Mutual Aid Club by Dr. Stella Liu

1964
Set up the first Male Halfway House at To Kwa Wan

1965
Renamed as New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association

1968
- Set up the first and only agricultural sheltered workshop at Tuen Mun - New Life Farm
- Set up first industrial Male sheltered workshop at To Kwa Wan

1970s-80s
Expansion of Residential Service

1972
Set up first Female Halfway House at Kwun Tong

1975
Established Male Halfway House in San Fat Estate in Tuen Mun, the Association’s first Halfway House located in a public estate

1976
Established hostel for the moderately mentally handicapped at Shau Kei Wan

1978
Established four Sheltered Workshops since 1978

　‧ New Life Building Sheltered Workshop (1996)
* The Kowloon Workshop has been moved to Kwai Shing and renamed it as Kwai Shing Sheltered Workshop (1981)

A donated flat "Ching Kung House" at Mei Foo was tranformed to accomodation use for ex-menteal patients

1986
Set up the first standard Halfway House at Sun Chui Estate, Sha Tin

1990s
Development of Diversified Services

1990
Established the first Long Stay are Home at Tuen Mun in Hong Kong

1993
Started the first Supported Employment Service in Hong Kong

1994
Set up the first “simulated business" - Kin Sang Market Stall at Tuen Mun

1996
Commenced operation of the New Life Building Long Stay Care Home

1997
- Set up the Jockey Club New Life Institute of Psychiatric Rehabilitation
- Grand Opening of New Life Building
- Opended the New Life Convenience Store at West Wing of Kowloon Hospital as a pilor project
- Set up New Life Vegetable Stall and New Life Fruit Stall

1998
Established the Concord Mutual-Aid Club Alliance among service users

1999
- Awarded the first large-scale cleaning tender – Kwai Tsing Cleaning Project
- Opened the first New Life Restaurant at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre

2000s
Active Development of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Social Enterprise

2000
Converted the New Life Farm into an organic farm

2003
- Commenced business of the cultural kiosk - Dragon Passion located at Lai Chi Kok
- Set up the Stress Management and Relaxation Room at New Life Building

2004
- Opened the first New Life Healthy Living Specialty / Organic Shop at Tuen Mun Station, West Rail Line
- Rented 4 hectare land from the government to set up the New Life Interactive Farm.
- Established Family Network

2005
- Set up Self-financed Hostel - Yuet Wo House and Yi Yuet Hin
- Opened the New Life@Lantau Link at Lantau Link View Point

2006
- Set up New Life Gourmet
- Operated Eco-tourism

2008
- Operated the production of organic soybean products as the one-stop supply chain for Social Enterprises
- Commenced the Clinical Psychological Services

2009
- Established The Wellness Centre, the first Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness (ICCMW) at Tin Sin Wai Hong Kong
- Set up Teresa New Life Coffee Shop
- Started to develop the "recovery-oriented" services

2010s
Moving towards 330 Welling Promotion at the Community

2010
Since 2010, the Association has set up 7 The Wellness Centres in Sham Shui Po, Yau Tsim Mong, Shatin, Kwai Chung, Tuen Mun and Islands Districts

2011
- Launched a rebranding campaign on holistic health (330) for Social Enterprises
- The first cafe330 commenced business at Prince of Wales Hospital
- The first farmfresh330 was set up at Tai Hang
- eshop330 launched
- Commerced business of Sun Garden Cafe at Kadorrie Farm & Botanic Garden
- Established the first project of Teens with Autism Spectrum Disorders

2012
Set up the rwb330 brand

2013
- Started Joyous Place - the first supported hostel with self-financed and subvented sections
- Commerced business of One Cafe at Castel Peak Hospital

2015
- Launched the "Jockey Club iREACH Social Competence Development and Employment Support Center" to provide lifespan supportive service for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Launched newlife.330 for promoting Mindfulness
- Two licensed food factories - delight kitchen and drinks330 commenced business
- Established The New Life Recovery College to advocate equality in participation

2016
Commenced eGPS service

2017
Commerced business of T‧Cafe at T.Park, the Hong Kong’s first self-sustained sludge treatment facility

2019
- Launched "dayday330" Campaign to encourage the public to take a "330 micro break" everyday
- Operated the Kwai Tsing Community Green Station (CGS) (Funded by the Environmental Protection Department)
- Set up iSPA Support Centre for Persons with Austism
- Operated mobile Van for Publicity on Mental Wellness Service at the New Territories
