Jockey Club New Life Institute of Psychiatric Rehabilitation
The first International Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation Symposium, which was held from January 13-15, 1997 at the Institute, marked the first major event following the establishment of Jockey Club New Life Institute of Psychiatric Rehabilitation (the Institute). The Opening Ceremony was held and officiated by Mr Chau Cham Son, Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, right before the start of the symposium.
The Institute, which is the direct subsidiary of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, is set up to provide specialised training for professionals in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and mental health education for the general public as well as people with mental illness, as an effort to contribute to the development of the expertise and advocate holistic health. The Institute has been keeping itself abreast of the advancement of the psychiatric field since its inception, designing and providing various kinds of training programmes and certificate courses which are tailored to the needs of frontline workers. The final goal of these programmes is to enhance the overall service quality in the psychiatric field. Furthermore, we also invite overseas experts and academia specialists to give lectures, sharing with us their experience and latest development, in an attempt to broaden our horizon and augment our level of skills.
With an aim to promote mental health education, the Institute organises talks, workshops and seminars to convey messages of good mental health to the public and stir up their concern about holistic wellness of the body, mind and spirit. Through its effort the Institute also seeks to reduce general public’s misconception of mental illness and help foster correct attitude towards mental health issues.
In response to the general public’s concern about mental health and workplace stress, the Institute has organised different kinds of training courses for the employees of Non-governmental Organisations, governmental departments and commercial corporations. Some hot topics include: “Mental Health and Mental Illness”, “Prevention and Handling of Violence or Aggressive Behaviours”, “Handling difficult customers” and “Turning Stress into Motives”.
