In Memory of Dr.Wu Wai Yung, Raymond

Dr. Raymond Wu, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Executive Committee of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, passed away on October 3 2006. His departure brings us great sorrow.

As the Chairman of the Association consecutively for 40 years from 1966 to 2006, Dr. Raymond Wu led the Association from its infancy stage to a matured non-governmental organization of today. The growth and development of the Association owed a great deal to his capable leadership and his vision of creating community-based rehabilitation services, bridging the gap between the health and welfare sectors. His guidance and seamless support has enabled us to pilot new initiatives which are now proven to be most effective in bringing people with psychiatric disability back into the community and enabling them to utilize their social capital in work and employment.

Dr. Wu's contributions to the Association are more than words can describe. His vision of sharing our work with counterparts in China to develop similar community psychiatric rehabilitation services has harvested very fruitful results. To continue his efforts, the Association has set up a designated fund in memory of Dr. Wu for the specific purpose of supporting exchange programmes with Mainland China .

Dr. Raymond Wu has been a staunch advocate of community psychiatric rehabilitation services in Hong Kong . His numerous contributions in rehabilitation will remain a valuable legacy to the community. We will deeply miss him in the future and will continue his excellent deeds in striving for the well-being of people with disabilities.
